The Unwind #2: Twenty weeks

Issue #1 promised “roughly once a week.” It has been twenty weeks since. This issue is the overdue explanation. The excuse is decent: the time I’d budgeted for newsletters went into the blog itself. Ten pieces shipped in those twenty weeks. Posts, two talks, a podcast appearance. May was mentorship month. A three-part series, one part per week: why I keep mentoring in open source, a mentee playbook for getting into LFX, GSoC and friends, and how stewardship actually works inside OpenTelemetry. Somewhere in the same month, a talk I gave at PromCon Online in 2020 was adopted into the official Prometheus documentation, which earned a short grateful note. ...

The Unwind #1: Cold start

Welcome to The Unwind #1. The plan is simple: roughly once a week, I’ll send out a hand-curated mix of things I’ve read worth sharing and things I built or worked on, with short commentary on both. The shape is heavily inspired by Thorsten Ball’s Register Spill, which I’ve followed for a while and admired from a distance. A lot of what shows up here will come from my second-brain capture in Obsidian — notes I keep while reading and working, surfaced into one place each week. Future issues will get into specifics. This one is just the hello.
